Refilling Your Tank After Water Tank Cleaning

By the Dubai Water Tankers team · Published · Updated

How do I refill my water tank after cleaning?

After tank cleaning, the tank is empty and refilling from the DEWA mains can take many hours. Book a sweet water tanker to arrive just as the cleaners finish, once the tank has been rinsed and the cleaning company confirms it is ready. Give the cleaners the tanker's time and ask them to leave the inlet open.

  • A cleaned tank is empty: mains refill can be slow
  • Book the tanker for when the cleaning finishes
  • Only refill after rinsing and the cleaner's go-ahead
  • Sweet water only

Why refill is the hard part of tank cleaning

Cleaning a water tank means draining it, removing sediment, scrubbing, disinfecting and rinsing. When the cleaners leave, the tank is empty. Refilling from the street depends on mains pressure and the float valve. In some villas that’s a few hours; in others, especially in summer, it can take most of a day. Meanwhile the house has no water.

A tanker refill turns that into about half an hour.

Plan both jobs together

  1. Book the cleaning first. Ask the company how long the job takes for your tank size.
  2. Book the tanker for the end of the cleaning. We’ll fix a slot; tell us the cleaning company’s finish time.
  3. Share contacts. Put the cleaner and our driver in touch, or keep your phone on for both.
  4. Ask the cleaners to leave the inlet open and the cover off (with the area made safe) so the driver can start straight away.

Before the water goes in

Only refill once:

  • the cleaners have finished disinfecting and rinsing the tank,
  • no cleaning chemicals, tools or sludge are left inside,
  • they’ve told you the tank is ready.

Pouring fresh water onto disinfectant residue wastes the load. If you’re unsure, ask the cleaning company to confirm in writing (a WhatsApp message is fine).

How much to order

Order the full tank volume, since it’s empty. If you don’t know it, see villa water tank sizes. For most villa tanks that’s one 2,500-gallon load; bigger tanks may need two. Buildings with large tanks often take a 5,000 or 10,000-gallon load arranged through our partner fleet; see building water tank supply.

Make sure it’s potable sweet water

A tank you’ve just paid to clean deserves clean water. Ask your supplier:

  • Is the water sweet (potable), filled at an approved station?
  • Is the truck a sweet-water-only tanker? Dubai Municipality’s guideline says sweet water tankers shouldn’t be used for anything else and should be clearly marked in Arabic and English.

Our sweet water trucks carry sweet water only. Read is tanker water safe to drink for what to look for.

After the refill

  • Turn the booster pump back on and open an upstairs tap to clear air.
  • Let each tap run briefly. Some cloudiness from air is normal and clears quickly.
  • If there’s a chlorine smell, it usually fades within a day. A strong chemical smell means the tank wasn’t rinsed well; contact the cleaner.

How often to clean

Follow your community’s or building’s rules and your maintenance company’s advice. Many owners clean before summer, when tanks are warmest. Whatever the schedule, plan the refill at the same time so the house is never dry for long. Book through villa water tank refill.
