No Water in Your Villa in Dubai? What to Do in the Next Hour
By the Dubai Water Tankers team · Published · Updated
What should I do if there is no water in my villa in Dubai?
First call DEWA on 991 or check the DEWA app for a supply outage. Then open the underground tank: if it is empty, the supply has stopped and a sweet water tanker can refill it today. If the tank is full but the taps are dry, the problem is the booster pump, a valve or the rooftop tank, so call a plumber.
- Step 1: DEWA 991 or the DEWA app for outages
- Step 2: look inside the underground tank
- Empty tank → order a tanker; full tank → call a plumber
- Turn the pump off while the tank is empty to protect it

A Dubai villa has two separate water systems: the DEWA supply that fills your underground tank, and the house system (pump, rooftop tank, pipes) that moves water from the tank to your taps. Dry taps can come from either one, and the fix is completely different.
- Ask the neighbours. If the villas on both sides have no water either, it’s almost certainly the supply.
- Call DEWA on 991 or check the DEWA app or website for planned works or a burst main in your area. They can tell you if there’s an outage and roughly how long it will last.
- Check whether only some taps are dry. One dry bathroom points to a closed valve or a blocked fitting, not a supply problem.
Minute 10–20: open the underground tank
The underground tank is usually under a metal or concrete cover in the garden, driveway or side passage. Lift it and look (use a torch, and keep children away from the opening).
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Tank empty or nearly empty | Supply has stopped or can’t keep up | Order a sweet water tanker; ask DEWA about the outage |
| Tank full, taps dry | Pump, pressure switch, valve or rooftop tank | Call a plumber or your maintenance company |
| Tank full, water very slow | Pump struggling or filter blocked | Plumber; see our low pressure guide |
Protect the pump
If the underground tank is empty, switch the booster pump off at its isolator or breaker. Many pumps have dry-run protection, but not all do, and a pump running without water can overheat and fail. That turns a water problem into a repair bill. Switch it back on once the tank has water again.
Minute 20–60: getting water today
If the tank is empty and DEWA says the outage will last more than a few hours, a tanker is the fastest way back to normal.
- What to order: sweet water only, never salt or site water for a home.
- How much: if you don’t know your tank size, a 2,500-gallon load (about 9,460 litres) fills most villa tanks and lasts a typical family several days. See villa water tank sizes to work out yours.
- What to send us on WhatsApp: your community and villa number, a location pin, where the tank inlet is, and any gate rules. We reply within about 10 minutes with a fixed delivered price.
Our emergency water tanker service runs 24/7, with a typical arrival of about an hour depending on traffic and truck restrictions.
While you wait
- Keep some bottled water aside for cooking and drinking.
- Don’t run the washing machine or dishwasher when water returns until the pump is back on and the pressure is normal.
- If DEWA has restored the supply but your tank is still empty, the float valve may be stuck. Your plumber can check it.
After the tanker leaves
Once the tank is full, switch the pump back on, open a tap upstairs to let air out of the pipes, and let it run for a minute. Brief spluttering is normal. If water stays cloudy or smells, stop and call your plumber. That usually means sediment stirred up in the tank or the rooftop tank needs cleaning.
Avoid the next emergency
Most “no water” calls happen during planned DEWA works, in summer peaks or right after tank cleaning. Two habits help: know your tank size, and save our number before you need it. If your area has repeated outages, a weekly or monthly refill schedule keeps the tank topped up without you having to remember.
