Car Wash Water Supply: How Much Water per Car in Dubai?
By the Dubai Water Tankers team · Published · Updated
How much water does a car wash use per car?
It depends on the method. Figures reported by Gulf News range from about 205 litres per car for an in-bay wash and 280 litres for a conveyor wash to around 5 litres for waterless methods. Measure your own use from tank levels over a week, then multiply litres per car by cars per day to size deliveries.
- In-bay ~205 L, conveyor ~280 L per car (Gulf News)
- Low-water methods: as little as ~5 L per car
- Daily need = cars per day × litres per car
- Sweet water only: salt marks paint and corrodes pumps

There’s no single number. A 2018 Gulf News report listed these figures per car:
| Wash type | Litres per car |
|---|---|
| Home wash (hose) | 370 L |
| Conveyor wash | 280 L |
| Industrial wash (average) | 228 L |
| In-bay car wash | 205 L |
| Waterless / low-water method | ≈ 5 L |
Most hand washes and pressure-washer bays sit somewhere in between. The only reliable figure for your business is your own.
Measure your own use
- Fill your tank fully at closing time.
- Next evening, measure how far the level dropped and convert it to litres (tank length × width × drop × 1,000 for metres).
- Divide by the number of cars washed that day.
- Repeat for a week, including your busiest day.
Size your daily delivery
Daily need = cars per day × litres per car
| Cars per day | At 100 L/car | At 228 L/car |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 2,000 L (≈ 530 gal) | 4,560 L (≈ 1,205 gal) |
| 40 | 4,000 L (≈ 1,057 gal) | 9,120 L (≈ 2,409 gal) |
| 80 | 8,000 L (≈ 2,113 gal) | 18,240 L (≈ 4,818 gal) |
These are worked examples to show the maths. Use your measured figure.
Then match a load to your storage:
- Small tank, steady use: a daily drop of 200–1,000 gallons on a fixed morning route. See small water tanker.
- Larger tank: fewer, larger loads, such as 2,500 gallons every two or three days.
- Busy weekends: an extra Friday or Saturday drop.
See which tanker size you need.
Why sweet water
- Paintwork: salt water leaves white spots and streaks when it dries.
- Equipment: salt corrodes pumps, pressure washers and fittings.
- Staff: they’re in contact with it all day.
Order sweet water by name. See sweet, salt and TSE water.
Cutting water use
- High-pressure, low-flow nozzles clean with less water than open hoses.
- Trigger guns stop flow between passes.
- Water recycling systems treat and reuse rinse water; ask a specialist about suitability.
- Low-water or waterless washes for light dirt.
Less water per car means smaller deliveries.
Set up a regular supply
Most car washes do best on a fixed morning delivery before opening, with one monthly invoice. Send your location, storage size and cars per day on WhatsApp; we’ll suggest a load and slot with a fixed price per drop. See monthly water supply.
