Why Tanker Delivery Times Change: Dubai Truck Restrictions Explained

By the Dubai Water Tankers team · Published · Updated

What are the truck restrictions in Dubai and how do they affect tanker delivery?

From 1 October 2026, Dubai Police and the RTA restrict heavy vehicles across most Dubai roads: some routes are closed 24 hours, Sheikh Zayed Road and certain residential areas from 6 am to 10 pm, and several urban roads at morning, midday and evening peaks. Emirates Road is exempt. Heavy tankers may need longer routes, so delivery times vary.

  • 24-hour ban: Al Qudra St, Al Meydan St, all crossings, Airport Tunnel
  • 6 am–10 pm: Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut St, some residential areas
  • Peaks on Airport, Oman and Damascus streets
  • Emirates Road exempt; RTA permits for essential cases

What changed on 1 October 2026

Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced wider movement restrictions for heavy vehicles from 1 October 2026, as reported by Khaleej Times. The rules come in three groups.

Closed to heavy vehicles 24 hours a day

  • Al Qudra Street
  • Al Meydan Street
  • All creek crossings
  • Airport Tunnel

Closed 6 am to 10 pm (16 hours)

  • Sheikh Zayed Road
  • Beirut Street
  • Residential areas including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah and Oud Al Muteena

Closed at three peak periods

On urban roads such as Airport Street, Oman Street and Damascus Street:

  • 6:30 am – 8:30 am
  • 1 pm – 3 pm
  • 5:30 pm – 8 pm

Emirates Road is exempt. Companies with essential trips during restricted hours can apply to the RTA for a “Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles in Banned Times and Roads”.

Rules change; always check the RTA’s latest announcements.

What it means for your water delivery

Whether a restriction applies depends on the truck’s classification and the route. In practice:

  • Longer routes. A tanker that can’t use Sheikh Zayed Road or a creek crossing goes around, which adds time, especially between the old city and new Dubai.
  • Peak hours. Deliveries that cross Airport, Oman or Damascus streets may wait out the peak windows.
  • Some areas are slower by day. Deliveries into restricted residential areas may be scheduled for permitted hours.

That’s why we quote a realistic arrival time for your location when you order, typically about an hour, rather than a fixed promise like “30 minutes”.

How to get water faster

  1. Order early. Morning orders before the peak get the clearest roads.
  2. Book regular deliveries for permitted hours. Sites and camps can fix slots that avoid restrictions; see monthly supply contracts.
  3. Keep a buffer. A full tank means a delivery that takes longer doesn’t leave you dry.
  4. Send exact details first time. A location pin and clear access save the most time; see how to order.

Smaller loads, more flexibility

Small drops (200–1,000 gallons) go on smaller trucks, which may have more route options than large tankers. If you need a little water fast, ask for a small tanker top-up first, then a full load later.

Emergencies

If you’re completely out of water, tell us. We’ll give you the fastest realistic time and the best load size for that moment. See emergency water tanker.
