Winter Camp Water in Dubai: What You Need
By the Dubai Water Tankers team · Published · Updated
How do I get water for a winter camp in Dubai?
Most winter camps store water in a portable tank or bowser and have it refilled by tanker. Estimate your use from the number of guests and how many days you stay, add a buffer, and choose a tank the truck can reach on firm ground. Use sweet water for cooking, washing and toilets, and book refills before weekends.

Dubai’s winter camping season runs through the cooler months. For the 2024–25 season, Dubai Municipality opened camp permits from 21 October 2024 to the end of April 2025, with camps in the Al Aweer area. Permits ran for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 months and were applied for through the municipality’s winter camp portal, website or Dubai Now app. Check Dubai Municipality for the current season’s dates, locations and rules.
Desert camps have no mains water, so everything you use comes in by tanker or bottle.
How much water you’ll need
Every camp is different: a weekend family camp and a corporate event with a kitchen use very different amounts. Build it up from your own plans:
Water needed = guests × litres per person per day × days, then add a buffer.
Things that drive use:
- Toilets and washbasins, usually the biggest everyday use.
- Cooking and washing up.
- Showers, if you have them.
- Damping down sand around seating areas, if you do it.
After your first weekend, check how far the tank dropped. That’s your real number for the rest of the season.
Storage options
| Option | Good for |
|---|---|
| Portable plastic tank (1,000–2,500 L) | Small family camps |
| Larger tank or several tanks | Bigger camps, longer stays |
| Water bowser (trailer tank) | Moving water around a large site |
Place the tank:
- on firm, level ground the truck can reach without getting stuck in soft sand;
- close to where the hose can reach, ideally beside the camp’s access track;
- in shade if possible, to keep the water cooler.
Getting the truck to you
Desert tracks are the main challenge. Before the first delivery, send us:
- a location pin of the tank, not just the camp area;
- how the truck gets in: track condition, any soft sand, gates;
- a phone number that will be answered on the day.
Small loads from 200 gallons are often easiest for camps. See small water tanker and which tanker size you need.
Sweet water only
Cooking, washing and toilets all need fresh water. Order sweet water from a sweet-water-only tanker, as Dubai Municipality’s guideline requires for potable water. For drinking, many campers still prefer bottled water; that’s a personal choice.
Plan around weekends
Camps fill up from Thursday evening to Saturday. Demand for deliveries rises at the same time. Book refills for Thursday morning so you start the weekend full, and keep a buffer in case a delivery is delayed.
